Description:
As part of the Public Safety Buildings initiative and the new Public Safety Headquarters project, Lee Begole Drive is being reconstructed to connect Crescent Boulevard to the north and Grand River Avenue to the south. This road will provide a direct, efficient route for emergency vehicles while reducing potential delays from traffic congestion.
The City has contracted with Springline Excavating to build a realigned, three-lane Lee BeGole Drive, beginning with a connection to existing Crescent Boulevard to the north and ending with a connection to a new roundabout at 11 Mile Road. This segment will be constructed in two phases: Phase 1 (2026) from Crescent Boulevard to just south of the DPW's northern entrance, and Phase 2 (Spring 2027) from just south of the DPW's northern entrance to 11 Mile Road. This phasing will allow consistent access to and from the DPW at all times. The project will also include the mitigation of Bishop Creek and the installation of a new looped water main along the route.

Traffic Control/Detours:
No detours will be necessary during this phase of construction. All vehicular access to the DPW will be maintained from 11 Mile Road as normal.
During construction of the first (northern) phase, the recycling center will be CLOSED, and access to the Novi Police Gun Range will be via the DPW's south entrance. The Recycling Drop-off Center on Lee Begole Drive will be closed for the duration of Public Safety building construction.
Progress:
9/22/2026 - The tree and clearing subcontractor began last week on the north end, working from Crescent Boulevard to the east. This work should be complete by the end of this week.
9/8/2026: The City of Novi and the Resource Recovery & Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC) are temporarily closing the Novi Recycling Drop-Off Site for improvements related to the Lee BeGole Drive extension.
Starting Monday, September 21, the Novi Recycling Drop-Off Site at the Novi Department of Public Works (26300 Lee BeGole Dr.) will temporarily close. The Last Day of Operation will be Sunday, September 20.
Residents can use the RRRASOC Recycling Drop-Off Site at 20000 W. Eight Mile Rd. in Southfield (northeast corner of Eight Mile and Evergreen).
