2026 Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program (Novi Road over the CSX Railroad)

Please note - due to the nature of road construction, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, dates/times may vary. Thanks for your patience as we work to improve our roads.

Updated: August 14, 2026
Start: August 17, 2026
Current Status: Pending
End: September 30, 2026
Road Jurisdiction: RCOC

Description:

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has developed a Preventative Maintenance Program for several of their bridges that does not warrant rehabilitation or replacement. These programs are less intrusive while also extending the usable life of the bridge which is more cost-effective in the long term. One of the bridges selected is the Novi Road bridge over the CSX Railroad tracks, just south of the Main Street/Bond Street intersection.

Traffic Control/Detours:

The County's contractor will maintain one lane in each direction for the duration of the project. Traffic flow will be channeled, shifted and/or alternated between either the inside lanes or outside lanes, depending on the stage of construction. Local motorists may encounter delays for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.

Progress:

8/14/26: The Road Commission for Oakland County will start preventative maintenance work on the Novi Road bridge over the CSX railroad tracks (between 10 Mile Rd and Grand River Ave) on Monday, August 17. Repairs include deck, joint, pavement, and sidewalk work. The project is expected to wrap up in late September. Traffic will be reduced, but one lane in each direction will remain open. The sidewalks over the bridge will also be closed during the outside lane stage.

7/28/26: The contract has been awarded, and we are waiting on the project schedule.

3/10/26: The contract will go out to bid soon.

7/8/2025: This project has been postponed.

6/10/2025: Once a contractor is selected, construction is planned to start sometime in the summer and is expected to last 5 to 6 weeks.
