Progress:
November 14, 2025: The RCOC, in partnership with Farmington Hills and Novi, hosted a public information meeting on Thursday, November 13, 2025, about the planned 2026/2027 construction on 12 Mile Road, Novi Road to Farmington Road in the cities. The meeting was held from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the HAWK, 29995 West 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, in the Harrison meeting Room. It was an open-house format—there was not a formal presentation, but anyone interested could stop in at any time during the meeting to review plans or discuss the project with RCOC staff.
Description:
The approximate $9 million project is paid for by federal funds with contributions from the RCOC, Farmington Hills, Novi and Oakland County general government (through its Tri Party Program).
The 5-mile project includes:
- Patching concrete on sections of 12 Mile Road, from Novi Road to west of M-5.
- Milling (grinding off existing pavement) and repaving 12 Mile Road with asphalt from west of M-5 to Farmington Road.
- Repairing curbs and gutters where needed.
- Installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant crosswalks and pedestrian-crosswalk signals with push buttons.
- Upgrades to SMART bus stops.
- Installing High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) pedestrian-crossing beacons at White Plains Drive pedestrian crossing on 12 Mile Road.
- Utility relocation (will occur during the 2026 and 2027 construction seasons).

Traffic Control/Detours:
12 Mile Road is expected to have one lane open in each direction during construction. Business and residential access will be maintained throughout the construction.
