Water Main Break Update - March 8, 2026, 5:45 am

WATER PRESSURE RETURNED TO WALLED LAKE/ RETURN OF WATER PRESSURE TO NOVI TAKING LONGER DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING VALVE IN THE SYSTEM

Late on Saturday, Great Lakes Water Authority was able to reconfigure the regional system’s Haggerty Pump Station and water pressure is building in GLWA’s regional system. However, due to a malfunctioning valve, the filling process is taking longer than expected. Crews are working to fully isolate portions of the system to build pressure faster.

A revised estimate for water pressure/flow returning to Novi is 12:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026.

”We apologize to the residents and businesses of Novi for this further delay and for the fact that after 24 hours they remain out of service,” said Suzanne R. Coffey, Chief Executive Officer, GLWA. “We are working as quickly as possible to fully isolate portions of the system so that we can continue our efforts to ensure that Novi residents have water as soon as possible today.”

A meeting with their representatives is scheduled for later this morning for answers.

Beginning at 9 a.m., drinkable water will be available at:
Department of Public Works (26300 Lee BeGole Drive) - Please bring your own containers.

Water Main Break Update - March 7, 2026, 7 pm

Water Service Update – Saturday Evening

We know today has been incredibly frustrating for many Novi residents and businesses, and we understand how difficult it is to be without water for so long. We share that frustration.

Throughout the day, the City has been in constant contact with the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), which operates the regional transmission water main that experienced a break earlier today in Farmington Hills. Unfortunately, despite their several anticipated restoration timelines shared throughout the day, we have not received a new confirmed update on when water service will be restored to Novi. We know they are working tirelessly to pressurize the pump station and flush the system with the “intention to get water to Novi tonight.”

City staff will have another call with GLWA late this evening for an update on progress.

Drinkable water will be available at the Department of Public Works on Lee BeGole Drive until 9 pm this evening.  Please bring containers with you.

We truly appreciate the patience many residents have shown today, and we understand the hardship this outage has created for families and businesses across the community. Our team will continue to post updates here as new information becomes available.

Water Main Break Update - March 7, 2026,10:30 am

At 4:30 am, GLWA experienced a break in a 48-inch transmission main at 14 Mile Road and Verona (between Drake and Farmington Roads) in Farmington Hills. This break has caused much of Novi to lose water pressure.

Our Novi team met just a short while ago with GLWA. Crews are working to isolate the break in Farmington Hills and pressurize an alternate water delivery system.

Important Reminder: When water service is restored, please know a BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect until further notice for all impacted areas (Peach shaded area on the map, unless you are on a well).

Drinkable water is available at the Department of Public Works (26300 Lee BeGole Drive) - Please bring your own containers.

We are meeting again later this afternoon with GLWA and will continue to share updates as soon as we have them.

UPDATE (March 7, 2026, 6:55 am): The water main break is confirmed at 14 Mile and Drake in Farmington Hills. GLWA will be working to isolate the break and restore service.

UPDATE (March 7, 2026, 6:05 am): GLWA is investigating a possible water main break at 14 Mile and Drake.

UPDATE (March 7, 2026, 5:45 am): Early this morning, water pressure alarms alerted our team of a pressure loss from the Great Lakes Water Authority transmission lines. Much of Novi is without water. GLWA has been contacted and is working to determine the cause. Please see the map for impacted areas.

Once service is restored, all affected areas will be under a Boil Water Advisory.

We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
