It's a TERRIFIC Tuesday and the Water Boil Advisory has been LIFTED for Novi!
What now?
Click the link below to download the "What To Do After A Boil Water Advisory Has Ended" document from our friends at Oakland County. The document explains how to flush water in the home (including the hot water tank), replace filters, as well as checking appliances, humidifiers, water softeners, and other devices.
Irrigation
Even though the City of Novi is no longer under a boil water advisory, it is imperative that we continue to conserve water usage until we are back to normal operation on the 42" water main. Please TURN OFF irrigation systems until further notice, unless you are supplied by a well. This will help ensure that we do not lose water pressure while repairs are still being made. Keep in mind that majority of the community is being served by the bypass, including our friends at Henry Ford Providence Hospital and our senior living communities. It's important for us to continue helping each other until our water system is back to normal.
Repair
GLWA has been working nonstop to get their 42" water main repaired and back in service. Welding and inspections are underway. They have also been taking care of some valve maintenance during this time. If everything goes as planned, they expect the 42" main to be back in service within two weeks. Thankfully, we do not expect to go back on a boil water advisory when we are switched back to the 42" main.
Road Closures
- 14 MIle Road, between Welch and M-5 remains closed to through traffic.
- NEW - Eastbound 14 Mile Road between East Lake Drive and Novi Road is closed while GLWA crews work on a valve in this stretch of the roadway.
We want to, once again, THANK you, our valued residents and business members for your patience and understanding. Your support has been much appreciated. We will update you as to the status of the repair and return to the 42-inch main later this week.

This morning’s call with GLWA didn’t bring the news we were all hoping for just yet. The first round of water quality test results are still pending (we’re refreshing our inbox just like you!) and, to make things more interesting, Wixom experienced a loss in water pressure this morning.
💧Boil Water Advisory
If you’re in the peach-highlighted area, you are STILL under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice. Best-case scenario is Tuesday, but it could stretch into Wednesday depending on testing. The first collection happened yesterday, and as soon as we get results—we’ll shout it from the rooftops (or at least post it here).
🌱Sprinklers + Neighborly Love
We need to chat about irrigation. Sprinklers running in the morning are really hurting the system. If you see a neighbor’s sprinklers going, don’t get annoyed (they could be on a well) —be kind and give them a friendly nudge. We’ve done pretty good so far, but we really need to do better. Please, please TURN OFF irrigation systems if you’re in the peach zone.
🔧Repair + Testing Progress
Good news: the new pipe is in place (huge milestone!). GLWA took the first round of water quality samples yesterday and those results should be back soon. State rules require two clean tests, 24 hours apart. The reason for the wait? Each test needs 24 hours to "grow" in the lab before results are confirmed. Once the first test is clean, the second can be taken. If both come back clear, the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted (at earliest Tuesday).
We know this isn’t the update you were hoping for, but we’re getting closer every day. Thanks for hanging in there, Novi—your patience (and humor) helps. For now, keep boiling that water before consuming!

Novi, you continue to amaze us with your patience and support as GLWA works through this major water main break. THANK YOU for your understanding and cooperation.
We have a few important updates:
🔷 Boil Water Advisory - All those in the highlighted peach area on the map remain on a BOIL WATER ADVISORY until further notice.
🔷 Water Usage - We cannot say this strongly enough, it is imperative that all residents and businesses turn off irrigation systems and refrain from outdoor water use throughout the duration of the repair. We are operating on a temporary 24-inch bypass line in place of the 42-inch main that typically serves our community. This system is stable but limited, and reducing unnecessary demand is critical to keeping water flowing for essential needs.
9/26/25: 7:52am
GLWA has successfully isolated the break, and you should now be experiencing improved water pressure (though it may not yet be at full strength and could fluctuate due to the demand on the system, especially this morning).
A few important reminders:
🔷 All residents and businesses in the peach area of the map remain under a Boil Water Advisory. For information about a Boil Water Advisory, visit https://www.oakgov.com/.../drinkin.../boil-water-information
🔷 An outdoor water use restriction is in place. Please turn off irrigation systems to help reduce demand.
🔷 The system is stable, but it’s a good idea to fill your bathtub or other containers with water as a backup supply in case service is interrupted again.
Our City team will be meeting with GLWA field crews later this morning, and we’ll provide another update afterward.
🚨Water Main Break Update 🚨
9/25/25: 5:45pm
Our Novi team met again late this afternoon with GLWA. Crews have successfully shut 6 of the 7 valves needed to isolate the break and will continue working through the evening and overnight. Once complete, they will pressurize an alternate delivery system.
🚧Traffic Alert: Fourteen Mile Road remains closed to through traffic between Welch Rd. and M-5 until further notice.
💧Important Reminder: If your water is back on Friday morning, please know a BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect until further notice for all impacted areas (see map below).
📍Drinkable Water Available Until 9 PM Tonight — bring your own containers:
Department of Public Works (26300 Lee BeGole Dr.)
Roethel Dr., just south of Nine Mile Rd.
ITC Community Sports Park (51000 Eight Mile, at Eight Mile & Napier) – at the soccer concession stand in the center of the park
We’ll continue to share updates as soon as we have them (most likely EARLY tomorrow morning). Thank you, Novi, for your patience and understanding.💙
9/25/25: 2:15pm
GLWA field crews continue working to isolate the water main break. Out of seven valves that need to be closed, four have already been successfully shut. Crews will keep working this afternoon, evening, and into the night if necessary to finish closing the valves and pressurize another delivery system.

Earlier this morning, GLWA experienced a break in a 42-inch transmission main on 14 Mile Road, just west of M-5. This break has caused much of Novi to lose water pressure. Field Service crews are on-site working to isolate the break. Given the size of the main, this process is expected to take several hours before water service can be restored to those impacted (see map below).
Once service is restored, all affected areas will be under a boil water advisory. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
What should you do?
-
ALL residents and businesses in the peach area in the above map are impacted (except those on a well).
-
Do NOT drink the water without boiling it first. Let it boil for one (1) minute and let it cool before using.
-
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.
-
Filtered water is NOT safe for use as the organisms are microscopic. Boil ALL water used for consumption.
-
Water can be used for showering, baths, and shaving, but do not swallow water or allow it to get in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Supervise children and disabled individuals during their bath to make sure water is not swallowed. Minimize bathing time.
-
Avoid using irrigation systems.
-
If you are on a well, you are not impacted by this Advisory.
-
General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1.800.426.4791.
