City of Novi Minor Home Repair Program

The City of Novi Minor Home Repair program seeks candidates for its upcoming service year. The program helps qualified low-income homeowners in the city make needed repairs and improvements to their residences. The program tackles priority improvement projects including furnace repair; water heater, toilet, or garbage disposal replacement; fixing porches, wiring, leaky roofs; and removal of dangerous trees. Grants up to $5,000 are possible. In addition to help with repairs, homeowners can apply for weatherization assistance to help improve their home's energy efficiency and year-round comfort, and lower utility bills.

  • A family from Rochester fell behind on their housing payments due to job loss and received $20,000 to bring their mortgage and property taxes up to date.
  • A retiree living in White Lake got a loan modification with a lower interest rate and longer term that reduced their monthly mortgage payment from $1,100 to $700.
  • Half of a Hazel Park’s family’s monthly mortgage payment was covered when the head of the household was unemployed, and continued for six more months after employment began again.

Oakland County’s Community & Home Improvement, a division of Economic Development & Community Affairs, has been helping residents with their housing needs for more than 30 years. Its counselors are certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Michigan State Housing Department Authority. They provide FREE counseling on housing matters like Preventing Mortgage Default, Reverse Mortgages for Seniors, Tenant/Landlord Issues, and Fair Housing Practices.
