“Ramon is a lifelong learner and I appreciate what he has achieved though his hard work, leadership and dedication to the Novi Fire Department,” stated Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police David E. Molloy. “I am honored to promote Lieutenant Alvarez to this key position within our organization.”
Alvarez joined the Novi Fire Department in April of 1987 as a paid on call fire fighter. He attended the Oakland Community College Fire Academy where he received his Fire Fighter I and II certification and went on to become a State of Michigan licensed Basic EMT in April of 1989. Alvarez was hired as a full-time Fire Protection Officer with the Novi Fire Department 1990.
In 1995, he completed his Associates Degree in Business Administration from Oakland Community College. Alvarez was promoted to Fire Protection Officer II in 2005, and in 2006, he completed his Fire Officer 1, 2 and 3 certifications. In 2009, he completed the course in Advanced Safety Operations at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Continuing his education, Alvarez graduated from the School of Fire Staff and Command program at Eastern Michigan University in 2010, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with the Novi Fire Department in 2011. The Fire Captain position became available after the retirement of another Novi Fire Captain earlier this year.
