I wish to extend my appreciation and congratulations to you on your nomination and selection as the Novi Public Safety Employees of the Month – February 2019. Both of you were nominated by Dispatch Shift Leader, Karen Patterson, for your unyielding efforts on a recent case involving a missing elderly female who suffered from memory loss. The Public Safety Innovation Committee selected you for your team work, job knowledge, and persistence with locating an elderly Novi resident.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, Novi Officers took a lobby complaint regarding a missing 73 year old female who had not been seen or heard from in at least two hours. The brother of the missing female advised that his sister had left the hospital in order to drive back to her Novi home. Together, the two of you worked quickly to identify the license plate on the vehicle the missing female was driving. Additionally, you initiated a ping on her phone, put out a be on the lookout (BOL), and ultimately called On Star to search for the vehicle’s current location. On Star was able to locate the vehicle in the Township of Waterford and the On Star agent stayed on the phone with both of you to relay, turn by turn, the vehicle’s current location. The Waterford Township Police Department was contacted and successfully located the vehicle at M-59 and Pontiac Lake Rd. Waterford Police made a stop on the vehicle and offered to drive Jayne and her vehicle back to her home. Dispatch Shift Leader Karen Paterson stated, “As a dispatcher, I know how involved it is to handle pinging a phone and contacting OnStar. The teamwork shown by Dispatch Shift Leader Kaplan and Dispatcher Assaf in handling this incident epitomizes our department's commitment to excellence and service. I am honored to work with them and would like to see their hard work acknowledged. Thank you.”

Dispatchers Kaplan and Assaf, your hard work, determination, and compassion are truly a credit to the Novi Police and Fire Team. The full-time fire and police command officers and administrators congratulate you on being named Public Safety Employees of the Month – February - 2019.
