November 2016 - Officer Bob Manar
Officer Bob Manar
The Novi Public Safety Administration would like to offer our congratulations to Officer Bob Manar for being selected as the Public Safety Employee of the Month for November, 2016. Officer Manar was nominated for his attention to detail and follow up on two larceny cases. Officer Manar’s hard work helped develop suspects who were involved in both Novi incidents and crimes in other jurisdictions.
On November 7, 2016, Officer Manar was dispatched to the Crown Plaza for a larceny complaint. Management reported that money was taken from the cash drawer while the front desk clerk was on his routine hotel rounds. Officer Manar proceeded to view the CCTV video and recognized something familiar about the suspect. The perpetrator had taken steps to conceal his face, but the suspect had a unique stature and was wearing distinct blue tennis shoes. Management stated that they believed that the suspect was a former employee who was terminated after being accused of taking money. After Officer Manar reviewed the CCTV video, he recalled making contact with a homeless person in the 12 Mile Crossing two weeks earlier. Returning to the shopping area, Officer Manar identified the homeless man and discovered he was the employee who was terminated from the Crown Plaza. Additionally, the man was wearing blue shoes and his stature matched the suspect observed on the surveillance video. Although Officer Manar questioned this subject about the larceny at the hotel, he denied any involvement. This incident is still under investigation and will be reviewed by the prosecutor for possible criminal charges.
On November 16, 2016, Officer Manar was dispatched to a Retail Fraud at Kohl's department store with a juvenile male in custody. Officer Manar placed the juvenile under arrest and brought him to the station for booking. Upon completing a search of his person, Officer Manar located property in his wallet from two different home invasions in Farmington Hills. Building a stronger case, Officer Manar also contacted the Northville Township Kohl's store and provided them with information to assist with two retail fraud incidents that occurred at their location.
Officer Manar routinely goes above and beyond with his investigative efforts, and is applaud for his outstanding work. The fire and police command officers and administrators congratulate Officer Bob Manar on being named Public Safety Employee of the Month – November 2016.
