CPR or AED Course For Businesses

These classes are designed for businesses that are in need of training their staff in CPR. Course offerings are Heartsaver Adult and Child CPR and Heartsaver AED. Students will receive a two year certification card upon successful completion of the course. Fire Extinguisher Training For Businesses

The class is offered the first Friday of the month. Please contact Philip Duczyminski at 248.735.5667, to schedule a date and time. Limit of 10 to 15 students per-class. There is no refund or transfer of funds.

Home Watch

The Novi Police Department has developed and implemented a Home Watch Program for residents who are on vacation or gone from their homes for an extended period of time. Novi residents can come to Police Headquarters, call 248.348.7100, or fill out an online form under the Government/Public Safety tab at cityofnovi. org to arrange a Home Watch check.

Handicap Patrol

The Novi Police Department is looking for volunteers to help patrol the parking lots within the City of Novi to ensure handicapped parking spots are available for those who need them. For more information, contact the Novi Police Department at 248.348.7100.

Drug Take Back Program

The Novi Police Department accepts unwanted prescription medications on a continuous basis. Citizens may turn in unwanted medications 24 hours a day by bringing them to the Novi Police Headquarters, located at 45125 Ten Mile Road. A person turning in prescription medications can remain anonymous, if they choose.

Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS)

The mission of the Novi VIPS Program is to “Observe, Report and Educate.” VIPS members can help educate community members about rules and local ordinances for the safety of all residents. VIPS members will also be able to observe and report on any situation requiring a public safety response. Contact Sgt. Mark Boody at 248.348.7100 for more information.

Child Car Seat Safety Checks

The Novi Fire Department provides free Child Car Seat Safety Checks and Installations, Monday through Friday, by appointment. Limited night and weekend appointments are available. The Department has four Certified & Licensed Child Passenger Safety Technicians on staff ready to provide the most updated information, a free check of your child seat and, if necessary, perform a complete child seat installation. The technicians were recently certified through the State of Michigan Department of Community Health and the National Child Passenger Safety Board (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) after completing an intensive, 80-hour course.  Community members are asked to bring the following items to the inspection:

  • Vehicles owner’s manual 
  •  Car Seat owner’s manual
  • And, if possible, the child who will be  “properly secured” in safety seat.

File Of Life

The Novi Fire Department offers free File of Life envelopes in which you can place medical records in and affix to your refrigerator. This allows emergency response staff easy access to crucial information. To obtain a File of Life or for more information contact the Novi Fire Department at 248.349.2162.

Fire and Fall Prevention For Older Adults

The Fire and Fall Prevention for Older Adults Program is designed to educate residents of the hazards within their own homes that could cause harm by leading to a fire or causing injury.  To schedule an appointment, contact the Novi Fire Department  at 248.349.2162. 

BLS for Healthcare Provider for Businesses

This American Heart Association course covers Adult, child and infant Basic Life Support Skills, (CPR, AED use, Bag Valve Mask use and Choking), for both one and two rescuers. The class is designed for businesses that are in need of training their staff in Basic Life Support. Students will receive a two-year American Heart Association certification card upon completion of the course. There is no refund or transfer of funds. Home Fire Inspections

The Novi Fire Department will provide a free courtesy Home Safety Inspection. At the conclusion of the inspection a copy of the findings will be given to the resident along with suggestions and recommendations on how to correct any hazard found during the inspection. Adult and Child Heartsaver CPR

This is an American Heart Association course covering CPR and choking emergencies for adults and children. Students will receive a two-year certification card upon successful completion of the course. Free for Novi residents. Register online at cityofnovi.org or at the front desk of the Civic Center. Novi Police Department Civilian Pistol (CPL) Safety

This course fulfills both the classroom and shooting requirements to obtain a Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL). Students must bring their own equipment, including a personal handgun, 100 rounds of ammunition, safety glasses, and shooter’s earmuffs or ear plugs. Participants must be 21 years old and do not have to be a Novi resident to attend. Register by completing an application at cityofnovi.org or in person at the Novi Police Department.
