Dance Opportunities

Virtual Dance Virtual Ballet I/II

Join Ms. Chelsea virtually! Ballet I/II is for students looking to move beyond Princess Ballet or Ballet I. Students will begin with a stretch and light conditioning to increase flexibility and increase strength, and then proceed through classical ballet exercises at the barre and center. This class allows teens and adults to learn ballet basics while improving flexibility, strength, and posture. If you’ve ever wanted to learn ballet, this class is for you! This is also a great class for adults who have done ballet in the past, as well as teens at a beginner level. The class will begin at the barre and teach fundamentals in a classical setting. All experience levels are welcome in this no-judgement ballet class!

Virtual Theatre Workshops

Mastering the Monologue

Everyone gets nervous at auditions! The base of auditions is nothing more than a monologue! In fact, many of the great moments in theatre are a serious or comedic monologue delivered with passion and purpose. In Mastering the Monologue participants will explore the skills needed for performing both dramatic and comedic monologues. Participants will learn how to choose a monologue for them and to develop and techniques to help prepare and relax when performing. Other aspects of acting and techniques to be discusses include text breakdown, objectives, and tactics, how to truly get into character using exercises in believability and emotion, and much more! Each student will perform one comedic and one dramatic monologue for the group and family members at the end of the workshop via Zoom.

Puppet Theatre

Scriptwriting Part 1

“Storytelling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world today.” (Robert McKee) And there are so many stories to tell! This introduction to scriptwriting will explore tools and techniques to finding your story, exploring characters, creating dialogue, and getting past writer’s block. Each participant will receive a journal to use for their ideas.

Singing in Character

Singing in Character is a fun and exciting way to teach performers that skill they need to reach their musical theatre goals! This workshop will focus on training actors to find “specificity” in their performances. We will teach how to pick appropriate songs for performing, teach tips and tricks for finding characterization, work on vocalizing as a group and individually, how to use your body while singing, how your song tells a story and learn about why we sing in musicals. And lastly, we will learn the very important WHAT DO I DO WITH MY ARMS!?

Sketch Comedy

Everyone loves a good laugh! Sketch comedy is a great way to learn about the concept of comedy. Sketch comedy is a short, funny exploration of a concept, character, or situation. In this workshop, performers will learn the fundamentals of sketch comedy writing. During the sessions, participants will write and refine a short comic sketch that will be aired in a virtual performance during the last class.

Theatre Choreography

Join us in this fun workshop that will introduce the world of dance and its many connections to theatre! Villa Barr Tours and Events

Villa Barr Art Park 22600 Napier Road

Villa Barr Art Park is a four-acre property, previously owned by internationally-famed artist David Barr. The property includes a home, studio and sculpture garden. The intention of the park is to enhance art experiences in Novi whether by admiring the art installations or participating in a program on site.
