Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is comprised of nine (9) members who are
appointed by the Mayor, with approval by the City Council. Members
of the Commission serve three (3) year terms. One of the regular
members of the Planning Commission is also a member of the Zoning
Board of Appeals. The Planning Commission elects its own officers,
including a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Secretary to serve one
(1) year terms.
The Planning Commission is authorized to review and approve Site
Plans and Special Land Use permits for new commercial and
residential development in the City of Novi. The Planning Commission
may also approve Woodland and Wetland Permits and Storm Water
Management Plans in conjunction with these new developments. The
Planning Commission makes recommendations to the City Council
regarding rezoning applications and proposed amendments to the
Zoning Ordinance. Working closely with City staff, the Planning
Commission also prepares and updates the City’s Master Plan for Land
Use and presents this report to City Council.
Planning Commission meetings are generally held on the second and
fourth Wednesday of the month in the Council Chambers. These
meetings are open to the public. The public hearing (where public
comment is solicited and entered into the public record) is
generally held at the Planning Commission meeting for rezoning
requests, Zoning Ordinance text amendments and certain development
projects. The public is always encouraged to attend a meeting to get
their comments on the public record or fill out a comment form and
mail or fax it in and it will be read into the record at the
meeting.
Persons interested in submitting a development site plan, or
proposing a rezoning or Zoning Ordinance text amendment should
contact the Planning Division of the Community Development
Department at 248-347-0475.
Any additional questions or concerns may be directed to the
Community Development Department at the above referenced phone
