 Novi Water & Sewer Billing Facts

1. The City of Detroit uses meter data to record the City of Novi’s actual maximum day and peak hour usage factors. These maximum and peak hour usage factors have resulted in increased costs to us as our use patterns have changed since the 1980s. We are promoting ways to lessen our maximum and peak hour usage factors from Detroit in order to lower future Detroit rate increases to us. 

2. New users of the system pay for all water and sewer line additions. Therefore, Novi’s rates do not contain any amount for expansion of the system.

3. Nearly 80% of the water and sewer system is complete and paid for. As a result, the only outstanding water or sewer debt is for the North Huron Rouge Valley Sewage debt, with the final payment in 2009 (no direct City debt for Novi’s infrastructure).

4. Over 75% of the City’s water & sewer budget (excluding depreciation) is for payments to the City of Detroit Board of Water Commissioners and Water Resources Commissioner for water and wastewater services.

Novi has one of the lowest markups on Detroit’s water rate. Our mark up of 17.35% is far below the 125% average markup of most communities.


Important:  The City of Novi recommends watering your lawn between 11:00pm and 5:00am.

Checking/Savings Account Deduction

Pay it Safe logoNovi residents have the opportunity to have water & sewer charges directly deducted from their checking or savings accounts.  The Novi City Treasurer's office and with the Department of Public Works have teamed up with The Payments Authority to add convenience to your bill payments.  If you are interested in signing up, please click here or call the Novi Water Department at 248-347-0496 for all the details.

Electronic Check Payments

Electronic Check payments are offered through Point & Pay by clicking here.  You can also make an electronic payment by telephone at 855-340-4487. If you have any problems processing your payment, please call customer support at 888-891-6064, option #1.  There are no fees for online/telephone processing of electronic check.

Credit Card Payments

Credit Card payments are offered through Point & Pay by clicking here.  You can also make a credit card payment by telephone at 855-340-4487.  If you have any problems processing your payment, please call customer support at 888-891-6064, option #1.  Please note, Point & Pay charges a convenience fee for this service which is the responsibility of the taxpayer.

In Person or by Mail

You can also pay your bill through the mail or in person at the Civic Center.

Effective immediately, the mailing address for payment of water and sewer bills has changed to:

Please update your records (including on-line bill payment information and accounts payable software) to reflect this change.

Drop Box

For your convenience, there is a drop box located at the curb behind the Civic Center for tax and water/sewer payments (checks only please, no cash.) We ask that you put your check and top portion of the bill in an envelope before putting in the drop box. Payments will be accepted in the drop box until midnight on the due date.
