Child Watch Program
The
Michigan Community Child Watch Program is designed to teach children
and parents about crime prevention and "stranger danger." Adult
participants are required to go through a background screening and
training session where crime reporting and the overall goals of the
program are shared. The participants are then issued a poster for
display in their home that designates the house as a safe place for
children to go if they need assistance. The volunteers who are
selected are advised to contact the Novi Police Department the
moment a child reports a suspicious situation to them.
The program is then taken to the local
schools for dissemination to the students at the elementary and
middle school levels. Children are taught to look for the homes with
the Child Watch posters in the event they don’t feel safe or if they
believe they could be in some type of trouble.
