Health and SafetyHome WatchThieves often target homes of citizens who are on vacation or otherwise gone for an extended period of time. In response to this unique factor, the Novi Police Department has developed and implemented the Home Watch Program. Novi residents can come to Police Headquarters, call 248.349.7100, or fill out an online form to arrange a Home Watch check.
Handicap PatrolThe Novi Police Department is looking for volunteers to help patrol the parking lots within the City of Novi to ensure handicapped parking spots are available for those who need them. Applicants must be at 21 years old, possess a valid Michigan driver’s license, pass a background check, and be able to calmly handle situations with an understanding of the rules and regulations of the programs. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT )The CERT program educates participants about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercised, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. For more information on CERT, click here.
Novi Police Department CPL Civilian Pistol Safety ClassThis one day, MCOLES approved course fulfills the classroom and shooting requirements necessary for obtaining a Michigan Concealed Pistol License. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

YOUTH POLICE/FIRE ACADEMYThe roles of the Police Officers and Fire Fighters have always been of great interest to the youth. During this one-week course, Novi Police and Fire Department staff will educate attendees about patrol operations, use of force, the K-9 program, traffic laws/ stops, the judicial system, Fire Department operations and a visit to the Fire Department training tower. Child Car Seat InspectionsThe Novi Fire Department provides free Child Car Seat Safety Checks and Installations, Monday through Friday, by appointment. The Department has two Certified & Licensed Child Passenger Safety Technicians on staff ready to provide the most updated information, a free check of your child seat and, if necessary, perform a complete child seat installation. Both technicians were recently certified through the State of Michigan Department of Community Health and the National Child Passenger Safety Board (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) after completing an intensive, 80-hour course. FILE OF LIFEThe Novi Fire Department offers free File of Life envelopes in which you can place medical records in and affix to your refrigerator. This allows emergency response staff easy access to crucial information. HOME FIRE INSPECTIONSThe Novi Fire Department will provide a free courtesy Home Safety Inspection. Inspections provide an opportunity to educate the home owner or occupants about fire safe behavior and the need for adequate fire and life safety conditions inside and outside of the residence. The inspection will check each area of your home and offer fire safety tips and suggestions to safe guard your family from the threat of fire or other potential hazards. The inspection typically lasts between 20-30 minutes. At the conclusion of the inspection a copy of the findings will be given to the resident along with suggestions and recommendations on how to correct any hazard found during the inspection. This program is strictly voluntary, but if you participate there are many benefits to you and your family. The Novi Fire Department simply wishes to assist you in making your home fire safe and hazard free. FIRE AND FALL PREVENTION FOR OLDER ADULTSIn an effort to better protect and prepare our older adults, the Novi Fire Department is excited to announce a new program aimed at reducing the threat of injury and fire to Novi’s residents. The Fire and Fall Prevention for Older Adults Program is designed to educate residents of the hazards within their own homes that could cause harm by leading to a fire or causing injury. Slips and falls are the main source of injury for older people in the home. Fire Department Inspection personnel will offer recommendations to ensure your health and safety. They will also check to in ensure the proper installation and maintenance of at least one smoke detector on every floor of the home. The Fire and Fall Prevention Program will be delivered to Novi residents through both group presentations and by making in-home visits upon their request.
