SKYWARN is an effort to save lives during
severe weather emergencies by expanding our network of
spotters (police, fire, security and citizens). The more
trained "eyes" we have in the field during a severe weather
event, the better our notification to the public.
There is no way to stop tornadoes, and not all tornadoes
show up on radar, but they can be seen. Lives can be
saved. Only one instrument can detect a tornado or
funnel with complete certainty, the human eye.

about the National Weather Service SKYWARN Spotter Training. |
The National Weather Service conducted the SKYWARN Spotter
Training on March 18, 2008 at the Novi Police Department Training
Center. A total of 80 people from Novi and the surrounding area
participated in the training. Of the 80 attendees, there were three
Novi Police Department Officers, two Dispatchers as well 33 Novi
CERT Team members. These trained community members will be a great
asset to draw from as they furthered their skill set in regards to
severe weather disasters. We now have an additional 80 trained
tornado spotters in this and neighboring communities!
