NOVI, Michigan, February 6, 2012 – The City of Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is hosting two new outdoor recreation programs this winter, Snowshoeing Adventure at Kensington Metro Park and a Cardboard Sled Contest. Both events provide the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family, while enjoying Michigan’s winter wonderland.

SnowshoerAdults 55 years or older, and their guests of any age, can snowshoe the trails along the Huron River at Kensington Metro Park on Wednesday, February 15 beginning at 10:00am. The 90-minute adventure includes an interpretive guide and hot chocolate. The pace will accommodate all participants, from older adults to preschool age children. The program is $14 per person and registration is available at the Novi Senior Center and the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department located inside the Novi Civic Center. Snowshoe rentals are included; wear boots and dress for the weather. There is a $5 daily vehicle entry fee or $25 for an annual pass to all 13 Metro Parks. “This new program is a great way for people of all ages to spend time together and reap the benefits of being outdoors,” said Senior Services Manager Rachel Zagaroli. “We are hopeful that the weather will cooperate; however if not, participants will have a great experience hiking the trails and visiting the Farm Center and enjoying refreshments. Additionally, they will receive a free pass to enjoy snowshoeing at another time.”
