FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOVI, Mich, December 5, 2011 – The City of Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is excited to share the work of Lilian Hsiao, a renowned artist from Taiwan. The exhibit will be showcased in the Novi Civic Center Atrium Gallery from December 9, 2011 to January 2, 2012.

Hsiao’s art is bold, aggressive, and free. Previously, her work resembled detailed traditional oil paintings, but since 2000, she began to incorporate various Chinese traditional techniques. Her work represents her feelings, philosophy, compassion of life, and environmental protection. She uses many different abstract forms on canvas and conveys her love for Taiwan through dark and powerful canyons, vibrant marshes, and cold and calm glaciers.

Upcoming exhibits in the Novi Civic Center Atrium Gallery include an abstract art exhibit with Jan Brown and Katherina Eltringham, January 6 through February 27. Then in March and April, a special exhibit will feature four family members who will honor a longtime, committed Novi resident, as she celebrates her 80th birthday.

Other opportunities for viewing public art displays in Novi include sculptures at Fuerst Park, multiple installations at the Novi Public Library, and the Coasting the Baseline Marker, by David Barr, at ITC Community Sports Park. There are also several new and exciting art classes available through Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services starting in January. See the January-April 2012 Engage! (in mailboxes mid-December) for details. You can also contact Lauren Nowakowski via email for more information about the art classes or displays throughout the city of Novi.
