NOVI, Mich., June 13, 2008 – On June 5, 2008, Detective Sergeant
Matt Conquest was officially appointed as the Commander of the West
Oakland Major Crime Task Force (WOMCT). WOMCT was formed in the
early 1990’s as a result of a string of local abductions/homicides,
with area Chiefs of Police recognizing the importance of sharing
resources and working collectively to solve crimes.
WOMCT brings together the expertise of investigators from
multiple jurisdictions in Southwest Oakland County in the event of a
major crime where a single agency’s resources may not be enough.
Wixom, Walled Lake, Wolverine Lake, Novi, South Lyon, and White Lake
Township are among the many communities involved with WOMCT and who
routinely share resources to enhance investigative services.
As the WOMCT Commander, Detective Sergeant Conquest will direct
criminal investigations on behalf of the organization along with the
investigator in charge from the agency with jurisdiction over the
incident. In addition, Detective Sergeant Conquest will continue to
coordinate monthly intelligence meetings between law enforcement
personnel on the federal, state and local levels.
"I am privileged to have the opportunity to work with my
colleagues from other agencies in such a capacity," said Conquest.
"Sharing investigative resources strengthens the ability of each
department and being able to lead such an organization on behalf of
the City of Novi is truly an honor."
Detective Sergeant Conquest is a graduate of Ferris State
University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.
He is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of
Police Staff and Command. He joined the Novi Police Department in
1988 and served as a Uniform Patrol Officer until 1994 when he was
promoted to the rank of sergeant. In 2004, he was reassigned to the
General Services Division as a Detective Sergeant. Since that time,
Detective Sergeant Conquest has been actively involved in managing a
multitude of high profile criminal investigations.
"I am honored that Detective Sergeant Conquest was appointed to
this position and I have every confidence he will take an active
role in coordinating major case investigations which will assist our
law enforcement partners," notes David E. Molloy, Chief of Police.
"We have a proud tradition of assisting other agencies in times of
need and this consortium is an extension of that tradition."
