Press ReleaseGet swept away to a tropical adventure! The Novi Theatres Presents Kokonut Kapers opening May 8
CONTACT: Debbie Lannen, 248-735-5615 NOVI, Michigan, April 9, 2008 – C'mon, matey and join us for Kokonut Kapers! Audiences are sure to love this buoyant musical comedy that features fast-paced action, a treasure chest of jokes, high school antics, pirates and a plot that moves as swiftly as a hurricane. In Kokonut Kapers, Cordelia Hawkins and her kids must do something to earn money on storm-devastated Kokonut Island. They decide to open Kokonut High, a private institution of higher learning that promises a degree for every student...for a hefty fee. Along with the handful of future snorklin' scholars that show up, a crime syndicate also lands on the island and wants to take over. Adding another layer of laughter, the ghost of Captain Kidd appears, but only Swampy, a strange island inhabitant with a drop of true pirate's blood can see him. Songs include Kokonut Island, Little Wahini Baby, and Olive from Orlando.
Fifty-two young actors have been soaking up the sun and sand as they prepare to open Kokonut Kapers. Director Harry Wetzel (Detroit Repertory Theatre) has been busy perfecting this action-packed comedy for all ages. “Auditions were impressive. This is a huge cast that I found to be inspirational,” said Director Wetzel about his first directing opportunity with the Novi Theatres. Performance Schedule
