Novi Police seeking charges in domestic homicide

NOVI, Mich., August 14, 2018 – Novi Police Department investigators are seeking charges against Jay Allen Burnett, 34, in the Monday morning death of his 38-year-old girlfriend.

Burnett turned himself into the Michigan State Police Metro North Post around 11:30pm on Monday night as officers, investigators and agents were actively looking for him. He was interviewed by police and confessed to killing his girlfriend, Jamie Lee McManaman.

An autopsy by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office took place this morning and determined the manner of death to be homicide and the cause of death was sharp force injuries with complications.

Novi Police investigators will be presenting their findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for a review of all applicable charges in the coming days. Burnett remains in custody at the Novi Police Department.

Officers were first called to the scene at 10:16am on Monday morning for a welfare check at a home on the 26000 block of Indiana Avenue in the Novi Meadows subdivision.

Novi police officers and emergency personnel arrived within three minutes and upon entry discovered McManaman on the floor in the kitchen of her residence. McManaman was pronounced dead at the scene. Injuries to the victim were consistent with a homicide, which included multiple lacerations and stab wounds.
