Novi Police promote Baetens to assistant chief, Gruenwald to sergeant

NOVI, Mich., December 20, 2017 – A pair of veteran Novi police officers were promoted to new positions within the Novi Police Department last week.
Detective Sergeant Scott Baetens, who has been with the department since 2001, was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police, while Detective Kristie Gruenwald, who has been with Novi since 2002, was promoted to Sergeant.
Baetens, who is a Novi High School graduate, has held numerous assignments throughout his career, including serving as a patrol sergeant, field training officer, and detective where he was assigned D.A.R.E. and crime prevention duties. He has worked as the detective sergeant since 2013.
Since joining the department, Baetens has earned five Unit Citations, four Merit Citations, three Letters of Commendation and was named the 2005 Novi Police Officer of the Year.
Gruenwald came to Novi after serving as a police officer in Clawson. She also worked as a detective where she was assigned D.A.R.E and crime prevention duties, and is a member of the Hostage Negotiation team. Her career accolades include four Unit Citations, four Merit Citations, one Community Policing Award, the Individual Achievement award, one Letter of Commendation and she was named the 2016 Novi Police Officer of the Year.
