Novi Police identify two victims in fatal structure fire

Novi, Mich., December 15, 2017 – Novi Police and Fire Department investigators continue to investigate the cause of a residential structure fire that claimed the lives of two victims earlier this morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene of a possible structure fire at 1811 East Lake Drive around 7:23 a.m. on December 15. When they arrived they noticed a great deal of smoke and flames coming from the home and were told there were possibly two people inside.
Crews were able to enter the home and made it to the second floor where they found Novi residents Barbara Garner, 61, and her husband Kenneth Garner, 66.
The Novi Fire Department received Automatic Mutual Aid from Walled Lake Fire Department to assist in extinguishing the fire. The preliminary cause of the fire is undetermined. The Novi Fire Marshal is working with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigations team as well as the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of the fire and manner of death.
