NOVI, Mich., October 19, 2017 – Experience the great Mexican cultural celebration of life and death at the free Day of the Dead event on Sunday, October 29 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Novi Civic Center.

This unique, authentic and informational cultural event is open to the community and includes both educational and fun interactive opportunities. The afternoon kicks off with a procession and a live mariachi and dance performance featuring Gallos de Oro and Mexico Lindo. Community members are encouraged to decorate a skull mask at the Novi Public Library on October 28 and take part in the procession. Drop-ins welcome from noon to 3 p.m.

Authentic Mexican cuisine will be for sale from Taqueria la Casita, a local restaurant. There will also be several activity tables where participants can learn about traditional crafts including papel picado, paper flowers and sugar skull decorations. There will be face painting, temporary tattoos, a costume table where children can try on different dance costumes and a booth dedicated to the history and traditions of the event. The event will conclude with a dance presentation by Ballet Folklórico México Lindo that will feature dances from different parts of Mexico.

Day of the Day is presented in partnership with Diversified Members Credit Union and Novi’s Ballet Folklórico México Lindo dance group led by Carolina Harris and Elsa Carrera.

For more information about the event, visit cityofnovi.org/art. More information about the skull mask decorating is available at novilibrary.org. The Mexico Lindo folk dance group is always accepting new dancers and their next session starts in November. Registration is available now.
