Remembering Veterans and showcasing community pride

NOVI, MICH., May 8, 2015 – On Monday, May 25, 2015, the City of Novi will commemorate Memorial Day with a morning of activities to honor the sacrifice and service given by Veterans for our country. Veterans, community members, scout troops, businesses, and other civic organizations are encouraged to participate.

Memorial Day Run
The day begins at 8:00am with the 4th annual Memorial Day Run with 5K and 10K races. The one-mile Fun Run will begin at 9:00am. The starting line is located at Fuerst Park (Ten Mile and Taft Roads). Pre-registration is recommended at

Cemetery Ceremony
At 8:45am, a tribute ceremony, presented by the VFW and American Legion, will take place at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens (Novi and Twelve Mile Roads).

The parade begins at 10:00am and travels west along Ten Mile Road from Karim Boulevard to the Novi Civic Center. Parade highlights include floats designated especially for Veterans, the Harmony Acres Arabian Parade Horses, antique cars and military vehicles, local marching bands and entries by several Novi businesses, churches and civic organizations.

Families may decorate their bikes and join the parade by calling (248) 347-0474 and pre-registering. Cyclist will meet at 9:30am at the Huntington Bank located at Ten Mile and Novi Roads.

Memorial Service
Following the parade Veterans, both living and deceased, will be honored with a fitting tribute including a traditional wreath laying, gun salute, patriotic songs and guest speaker, Colonel Miles A. Davis, Deputy Division Commander, 98th Division (IET), Fort Benning, GA.

Local Veterans are encouraged to take part in the parade and ceremony by pre-registering in-person at the Novi Older Adult Services or Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services offices, Meadowbrook Activity Center, online or by calling (248) 347-0414.

Veteran Luncheon
Registered Veterans and their families will enjoy a lunch, presented by American Legion - Post 147 of Northville and VFW Post 1519, following the Memorial Service at the Novi Civic Center.
