Novi City Council consists of seven members including the Mayor and the Mayor Pro-Tem.  They are Mayor Bob Gatt, Mayor Pro-Tem David Staudt, Councilmembers, Terry Margolis, Andrew Mutch, Justin Fischer and Wayne Wrobel, and Laura Marie Casey.  Use the menu to the left to learn more about each councilmember, or to send feedback, comments or suggestions.

Council Meeting Format

Approval of the Agenda

It is at this point in the Council meeting agenda that there may be additions or deletions made to the items originally listed on the agenda.

Audience Comment

You may participate during the periods of Audience Participation noted on the Agenda. Currently there are three opportunities per meeting-one near the beginning and the second about halfway through and the third at the end of the meeting. Citizens address their remarks to Council from the podium during audience participation.

  • For the record, you are requested to state your name and address before your remark to Council and fill out a card with your name and address for the City Clerk. This also helps the city in following up to your comments.
  • Due to time limitations we will unlikely be able to give you a direct response to your request at the meetings, but a City representative will follow up on your comments as necessary.

Consent Agenda (Approvals/Removals)

At this point in the meeting, Council decides which items will be taken off the Consent Agenda and discussed.  The Consent Agenda items are listed on the agenda after the "Adjournment".  Once these items are taken off the agenda they are then discussed under the section "Consent Agenda Removals For Council Action".

Matters For Council Action, Parts I and II

These are items listed on the agenda that will be discussed and acted upon during the meeting.

Public Hearings

If you are here for a Public Hearing you will be solicited for your input at that time-generally this is one of the first orders of business at a council meeting.

The same guidelines for audience participation apply to a public hearing.

General Courtesies For All

Please direct your comments to the Mayor.
Please be polite and refrain from using offensive or abusive language.

Communication With The City

In addition to attending City Council meetings, you can communicate your specific interests with the City of Novi in a variety of ways. You may want to consider these actions prior to attending a meeting:

  • Contact the city departments directly to speak with the staff who are there to assist you with your questions and comments. If you are not sure which department to speak with, contact the Public Information office at 248-347-0494 and they will direct you to the appropriate personnel.
  • City department directors oversee the daily operations of the city and may have the specific information that you want. Prior to an item being placed on the meeting agenda, there has usually been a record of action of the subject within the city departments, so it may be best to start your inquiries there. Department phone numbers are available on this website, or you may call the general city number at 248-347-0460 for an automated listing of departments.
  • You may also consider writing a letter to the City Council. Your letter is then photocopied listed under communications and included in the packet of information that is given to Council prior to a meeting. The letter should be sent to the attention: Novi City Council, 45175 West Ten Mile Road, Novi, MI 48375
