In August 2012, Novi citizens overwhelmingly passed a road millage allowing for more than $5 million to be used in annual road and pathway investments. Funds will be used to maintain and improve neighborhood (subdivision/ side streets) and major municipal roadways (mile roads, Beck Road, etc.), and to make sidewalk and pathway connections.

The City uses a formal asset management program that categorizes roads based on a Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating system (PASER). Roads in poor condition are candidates for reconstruction or rehabilitation. Those in fair condition receive capital preventive maintenance, while roads in good condition are candidates for routine maintenance work. The lowest rated roads in each of these categories are generally addressed first.

Crescent Boulevard, Flint Street and Future Bond Street Ring Road Tree Clearing

The City of Novi’s contractor (Arbor Master Tree Service, Inc.) and consulting engineer (AECOM-Great Lakes) will begin work in early February to clear trees in the northwest and southwest quadrants of Novi Road and Grand River Avenue.

The clearing work is to prepare for the ring road extensions that are scheduled to take place this summer.  Crescent Blvd, the northwest quadrant, will connect Novi Road to Grand River Avenue.  Flint St and future Bond St will connect Novi Road to Grand River Avenue in the southwest quadrant.  The construction of these roadways is part of the City of Novi’s master plan to help alleviate congestion near the Grand River and Novi Road intersection.  The northwest and southwest quadrants are the last segments of the ring road plan to be completed.  In addition to relieving congestion, the ring roads will also provide an opportunity for economic development in the area.

Some other items to note:

  • Residents, especially children, should refrain from entering, walking, or playing in and around the work zone.
  • Residents should expect construction noise and dust during daytime hours. The City’s Work Hours – Noise Ordinance is 7am to 7pm, Monday through Saturday.

The clearing is expected to be completed by the end of March which will then be followed by the road construction projects which are anticipated to be completed by November 2019.

Landscaping and tree plantings are being planned for along this stretch of Crescent Boulevard in 2020.
