The Novi Public Safety Administration would like to extend our appreciation and congratulations to Detective Sergeant Scott Baetens, Detective Randy Mince and Property Officer Joe Hetu on their nomination and selection as the Novi Public Safety Employees of the Month for October 2017. All three dedicated team members were nominated by Assistant Chief Jerrod Hart and selected by the Implementation Committee for their contribution and dedication to ensure the public trust during the installation of the new property room shelving system from September into mid-October.
In preparation for the installation of the new property room shelving system, all three team members worked together to log each of the roughly 5,800 items out of the property room and into Sally Port #2 in a reliable, organized manner consistent with best practices to preserve chain of custody. This required coordination with the Novi Facilities team to move shelving units and maintain secure access to the room. Once the temporary evidence room was intact, each of them monitored storage lockers for new property multiple times a day to ensure the lockers were always available.
Once the new shelving units were installed, each item had to be logged back into the property room and placed in a new storage bin within the new system. Noting an opportunity to inventory each item, these three individuals also created a new list of 84 items for destruction per statute. The nearly four (4) week long project was completed without issue and/or loss of public trust by systematically checking each other’s work and maintaining the chain of custody for evidence ranging from homicide cases to found bicycles.
The Novi Public Safety Administration applaud them all on their commitment and attention to detail during a comprehensive and challenging project such as this. The full-time fire and police command officers and administrators congratulate them on being named Public Safety Employees of the Month – October 2017.
