The Novi Public Safety Administration would like to congratulate Sergeant Kevin Rhea on his nomination and selection as the Novi Public Safety Employee of the Month – JULY 2017. Sergeant Rhea was nominated by Assistant Chief Jerrod Hart and selected by the Implementation Committee for his endless commitment and continued pursuit of excellence for the Novi Police Department.
Included in the 2014-2015 Budget was funding to attain police accreditation through The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Sergeant Rhea was identified as the Accreditation Manager for the department and over the course of 31 months worked tirelessly to ensure Novi Police Department directives included language covering the required standards representing best practices in law enforcement. In addition to meeting nearly all of the 484 mandatory and other than mandatory standards, Sergeant Rhea worked with subject matter experts to provide "proof" that we not only have the policies in place, but we are following them.
While pursuing our accreditation, Sergeant Rhea scheduled a required "mock assessment" in November 2016 with other Michigan CALEA accredited agencies to gather feedback on our progress and, in March 2017 hosted a full on-site assessment by two CALEA assessors. During the exit interview with the CALEA assessors, they both praised not only the entire departments’ efforts towards accreditation, but the coordination and comprehensive nature of Sergeant Rhea’s work. On Saturday, July 29, 2017, the Novi Police Department was awarded "Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation" in Providence, Rhode Island. Although attaining accreditation was a team effort for all department members to be proud of, Sergeant Rhea coordinated the process as the accreditation manager donating countless hours of his personal time to the process.
The Novi Public Safety Administration applauds Sergeant Kevin Rhea on his tenacity and dedication with helping us achieve the highest standards in law enforcement, and earning such a prominent distinction. The full-time fire and police command officers and administrators congratulate Sergeant Kevin Rhea on being named Public Safety Employee of the Month - JULY 2017.
