Shredding Saturdays

First Saturday Every Month, 9am-12pm

Through a partnership with Corrigan Record Storage, Novi residents may recycle up to 300 pounds with NAID Certified Secured Shredding for a $5 fee. Over 300 pounds is $.05 per pound. Hard drive destruction is available for a $5 fee.

Novi Youth Council

In summer 2005, the Novi Youth Council adopted a policy resolution encouraging Novi youth to become civically active within the community as members of the Nov Youth Council. Each year the Novi City Council interviews and appoints school students to the Youth Council. The 21-member council is charged with making recommendations to the City Council concerning the needs of children, youth and families in the city and the appropriate means by which public and private agencies in cooperation with volunteer efforts may address such needs. The two year term will begin July 2018 and go through Dec 2019. Spring Break Art Camp

Through art media exploration your child will explore their imagination and expand their creative process in this foundation focused camp. There will be an artist showcase on Friday to highlight the work done throughout the week. Before and after care is available from 8-9am and 4-5pm each day for a $50 fee.  Registration for before/after care is an option during registration for the camp.

Join us for the programs that make Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and problem solving more fun than you ever thought possible. Inspired by the Inductees of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, our educational programs are designed to impact young minds through fun, hands-on activities infused with the spirit of innovation. These immersive enrichment programs are led by local, certified educators and promote STEM concepts, as well as 21st century learning skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, and creative problem solving. Each age-appropriate program we offer embraces its own unique characteristics, but what ties them all together is an exciting environment with no wrong answers, a chance to brainstorm with peers and an opportunity to build confidence in the natural ability to dream and create. Turning Teen: Being My Best Self

Being My Best Self is the 2nd Turning Teen workshop for girls. The first program in the series is recommended, but not required for attendance. This program is recommended for girls ages 10 and up OR girls who have started puberty. Being My Best Self is a mother daughter workshop, intended to help facilitate and continue important conversations about body changes at home. Girls will learn important tips about taking care of and respecting their bodies, including information about skin care, shaving, bras and details about period and period care. After the program, there is an interactive activity to help girls understand how to use tampons and pads. Help your daughter understand and respect her changing body by giving her the information that she needs to recognize the importance of self-care! Caring in the Community Volunteer Fair

Spring Robin Races

The 2nd Annual Spring Robin Races will offer Half Marathon and 10K runs and a 5K run/walk on April 28, 2019.  The half marathon, 10K & 5K courses are paved and provide scenic views of beautiful Island Lake. All races will start at Novi Middle School and finish on the NMS track. The day will also feature a DJ/announcer at the start and finish areas. Packet pickup & late registration will be race day morning before the race. Post-race refreshments will be in the NMS cafeteria. Race participants have the option of a stylish short-sleeve tech shirt or a reduced registration fee as well as finisher medals. Age group awards are provided for all events. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Novi Parks Foundation and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Go to springrobinraces.com for more information.

Price: $34 for the 5K, $36 for the 10K, and $45 for the Half Marathon (before March 10). Prices rise to $39, $41, and $50 until April 27, 2019 at 12:00 PM. Prices on race day are $44, $46, and $55.

MLB Pitch, Hit & Run

Pitch, Hit & Run™ is the official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball ®. This FREE competition at Ella Mae Power Park is an opportunity for young baseball and softball players to prove their ability to pitch, hit and run among the best in their age group. This is your chance to advance through three rounds of competition and compete in the national finals on an all-expense paid trip to the MLB All-Star Game in Cleveland. Finalists will compete on-field prior to shagging fly balls during the Home Run Derby and attend the All-Star Game.

Turning Teen: Body Basics

Body Basics is the first in the Turning Teen series and provides age appropriate, medically accurate information about puberty in an engaging and relaxed manner. This educational, interactive workshop is ideal for girls before puberty starts or at the beginning of puberty. This is an introduction to your body and its parts, the difference between boys and girls, physical and emotional changes that happen during puberty, rules for body respect, emotions and more. Prior to the Turning Teen program starting we will be having a half hour yoga class and a boxed lunch provided by Providence Hospital. For more information and to register visit turningteen.com.

Novi Memorial Day Run

The day’s festivities will include a 5K and 10K starting at 7:30 am, and a mile fun run starting at 8:30 am. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Novi Parks Foundation. If you bring a canned food item, or are a returning runner from a year ago, you save $5 on your registration fee. It is also free for US Veterans. In 2018 more than 500 runners participated and it made for a great day. Participants receive a free shirt for registering. Following the race, stick around for the Memorial Day Parade.

In celebration of Novi’s 50th anniversary, a “Parades of the Past” album is being created to highlight Novi’s longstanding tradition of Memorial Day Parades.  Help us tell this story by sharing your memories through pictures.
