Note

Starting a fitness program may be one of the best things you can do for your health. Physical activity can improve bone and heart health, improve balance and coordination, develop muscle strength, and assist with weight loss. The Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department offers a variety of fitness classes from low-impact workouts that help strengthen and tone muscles to high-impact aerobics which helps burn fat and calories. Mats and weights provided. Listed below you’ll find a variety of fitness classes that vary from high-impact aerobics to gentle strength building. Each program includes age suggestions. These are suggestions; you’re encouraged to reference the ability icon to determine if the class may be right for you. Still not sure? Contact us to try one class free of charge. Interval Cardio Workout

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) involves alternating between very intense bouts of exercise and low intensity exercise. HIIT can be used both anaerobically (in the gym with weights) and aerobically with cardio. Power Plate

Power Plate machines give the body’s muscles a high-speed workout by using vibrations to stimulate them to contract and relax. They help circulation, to stimulate synovial fluid, and place constant tension on muscles which increases muscle strength faster, and provides a gentle sensation reducing muscle/joint pain and soreness. Tai Chi, sometimes referred to as “meditation in motion,” is an ancient Chinese martial art consisting of a sequence of slow, graceful motions that relax and strengthen the mind, body and spirit. Wu Style is a family art form that offers friendly and supportive atmosphere. Our instructor has taught locally at the Botsford Center for Health Improvement and University of Michigan Dearborn. Tai Chi is endorsed by the Arthritis Foundation. Participants learn at their own pace, no experience is needed. Class is intended for the more active adult.

Family Self Defense Center (FSDC) has provided instruction in Isshinryu Karate since 1992 and has been named a “Top Five Isshinryu Dojo in the Country” by the Karate Hall of Fame for 11 years. FSDC promotes a “family-friendly” atmosphere for the study of traditional Isshinryu Karate and Sport Weaponry. Founders of the school, Mr. Z, 8th, and Ms. Chris, 7th, degree Black Belt Master Instructors, have been instructing for over 40 years. Both were chosen “Top Contributors” nationally for their instruction of Isshinryu Karate,as well as “National Instructors of the Year” countless times. Currently, she coaches the Novi Varsity Field Hockey Team with her husband Kevin and she has a passion for mentoring young women and developing their field hockey skills! Spring NFL Youth Flag Football

Experience the Difference – Presented by: National Flag Football

This is a 5 vs. 5, non-contact, recreational, co-ed format. Teams are limited to 10 players to maximize playing time. This is an exceptional program for players who want to learn the fundamentals of football or for those who may want to continue to enhance their skills before tackle football.

Games are played at Wildlife Woods Park and Northville Community Park on Sunday afternoons. Practices take place one hour prior to game time each week. Participates will receive an NFL reversible jersey, flag belt, and individual participation award. Games are officiated by MHSAA referees. Children are placed on teams according to their school and grade to ensure classmates are playing together.

Spring WSSL Recreational Travel Soccer – NPSC Thunder

The Novi Parks Soccer Club offers a Rec travel soccer program called the Thunder that is governed by WSSL (Western Suburban Soccer League). There are no tryouts for Recreational division teams and they are formed provided there is a volunteer coach and enough players interested. Teams play clubs from surrounding communities at home and away locations on weekends and weekday evenings. Teams will practice twice during the week.

If an individual was not a part of a team from the previous season, they will be placed on teams based on availability. At the discretion of the parents, participants may play in an older division. New players will receive a full uniform including home and away jerseys, shorts, and socks. Returning players will use their uniform from Fall 2018. Skating Club of Novi

Note

Established in 1998 with 25 members, the Skating Club of Novi is a volunteer organization that has been a member of the United States Figure Skating Association since 1999. Since then, the club has grown to over 150 members. The club is dedicated to the promotion of figure skating, and supports many activities at the Novi Ice Arena to further this goal. The Skating Club hosts the Annual Ice Show in the early spring that showcases the talents of our Learn to Skate students as well as our recreational and competitive figure skaters. Our coaching staff is for all levels of skaters, from beginner to competitive; individual freestyle and dance. In December, the Skating Club of Novi is hosts their annual Holiday Exhibition. Tickets are available in advance or at the door. Freestyle ice is available six days per week (MondayFriday mornings and afternoons, and Saturday mornings).
