DIA Inside Out Spring 2017
The City of Novi is excited to once again be a participating community with the Detroit Institute of Art’s Inside|Out program! Thanks to a generous grant from the Knight Foundation, the DIA is able to bring replications of their wonderful art to our outdoor spaces including parks, the Novi Civic Center campus, and more! We will be hosting nine pieces beginning mid-April ending in mid-July and a map is available at cityofnovi.org/art.
To get into the artistic spirit we will be hosting several art centered events during the exhibit:
Novi High School Select Art Show
Join Novi’s best art students for their opening at the Novi Civic Center Atrium! There will be refreshments, special activities, and the artists will be on site to chat about their work. This is a FREE community event and no registration is necessary.
Colored Pencil Art Sessions

Stop by the Meadowbrook Activity Center Community Room for these bimonthly art sessions. These two dates we will have special coloring sheets with art from the DIA. This is a FREE community event for adults and no registration is necessary.
The DIA will be bringing their DIA Away trailer for this community open house event! This mobile, interactive space allows for creative exploration and hands on art experiences at various stations. Admittance is FREE and no registration is necessary.
Art Talk and Tour: Diego Rivera Murals & the DIA
Come listen to a “Behind the Seen” talk by a DIA representative regarding Diego Rivera’s famous murals at the museum. Following the session a Novi Public Library guide will take the group around various art installations at the Library.

Sizzling Summer Nights: Mini Maker Fun Fair
Join us for art exploration and experimentation at Fuerst Park! Local organizations will be on site performing demonstrations and workshops for all ages. Also included will be a scavenger hunt, community art projects, and the movie “Sing!” at dusk. This is a FREE community event for all ages and no registration is necessary.
DIA Inside Out Bus Tour
Tour the installation of DIA art work in Novi with an art guide from the museum. Sit back and relax as you visit nine sites from Pavilion Shore Park all the way to the Novi Dog Park.
Price: $5 deposit, refundable after participation

CALL FOR ARTISTS AND MAKERS
We are now accepting applicants to the Mini Maker Fun Fair which will take place in Fuerst Park from 7-9pm on June 16, 2017. We are looking for community members and organizations who want to show off their maker spirit and skill and help us spark interest in the maker world. Possible demonstrations and skills include but are not limited to woodworking, robotics, metalworking, weaving, sculpting, painting, and various forms of artistry. In a world full of computers and emails isn’t it great to receive greeting cards in the mail? We think so! We’ll bring the materials and you bring your creativity for these fun card making sessions. Our instructor is bilingual in Japanese and English.

Mother’s Day Card Class for All Ages

There’s nothing moms love more than a homemade gift! Show her you love her this year with a handmade Mother’s Day card. All ages welcome, children under 10 please bring an adult helper.

Digital Photography: Camera Technology to Photo Technique

Six evening workshops to help you understand and feel comfortable with the different functions of your camera and show you how to turn your snapshots into photographs. Learn the basic elements of art and photography and learn to visualize, anticipate, and create lasting memories. Bring your own adjustable settings camera, interchangeable or zoom lens camera or digital single lens refl ex camera and instruction booklet (required). Note: Video and studio lighting are not covered.
